The vision for this technology started with all of the City of Alexandria’s local government data being added to www.data.gov. This way, all the City’s data is now easily available to the public. This app is an open source application running on HTML5 that essentially does the same thing that the City’s Call, Click, Connect program does, but in a much more streamlined and intuitive way. Instead of being a page on a website, this service functions as an application on people’s smartphones, already making it easier to use. Also, all of the information is in one place, as opposed to the way that the City’s service is currently formatted, where each service has its own separate page.

Through this application, people are not only able to report problems, but also voice their opinions about them. This brings not only the problem, but also the public’s views on the problem to the attention of government officials. This helps government officials make decisions that truly reflect the wants and needs of the public good. Also, this app is completely transparent, meaning that all information is not only available to, but easily accessible by the public.
